Social Security Scandal Exposed, Scammer Convicted On 90 Counts Of Taxpayer Theft

In the United States, we work hard to ensure that everyone that lives in our country legally has the same opportunities as another American, In short, everyone has the same freedoms to life, liberty, and pursuing their own happiness.

The only thing that Americans are required to do is to obey the laws, which in turn protect the rights of other fellow citizens. So for the most part, you can rest assured that your life and property will not be stolen by others.

Unfortunately, in the case of Social Security fraud, taxpayers are victims to evil people who choose not only to scam the federal government but their hard-working neighbors who pay into the system.

And this case takes it one level worse: this woman was stealing federal tax dollars by using her deceased grandparents’ Social Security information!

From The Sun Sentinel:

For years after her grandparents died, Myriam Etienne quietly ripped off Social Security by accepting more than $130,000 worth of government benefits intended only for the living.

On Wednesday, jurors took about half an hour to find her guilty of 90 counts of stealing government money.

Etienne, a home health aide and nursing assistant, was immediately taken into custody in federal court in Fort Lauderdale and will remain jailed. She faces up to 10 years in federal prison and fines of up to $250,000 when she is sentenced in April. She also must repay the stolen money

She used some of the cash to make payments on her 2015 BMW X6, pay the mortgage on her North Lauderdale home, withdraw cash from ATMs, buy airline tickets and pay for her own everyday expenses…

What is most unfortunate in this particular case is that the women convicted tried to play the complete victim card in all of this. During the investigation prior to the trial, she spoke fluent English. During the trial, she requested the assistance of a Haitian interpreter.

She went even so far in her testimony to say that she wasn’t even sure if her grandparents were truly, actually dead. As you can see, she was grasping at straws to try and defer her blame on to something or somebody else.

For now, she faces up to 10 years in prison, but is that long enough for her misdeeds? I say she should be in there for at least 25. Perhaps after 25 years, she would finally face up to her crimes.
