The battle lines have been drawn in the state of Pennsylvania, and it looks like an ugly and drawn out fight will be the end result.
Democrats in the Keystone State have successfully stacked the deck in their favor, but the GOP isn’t having it.
That’s leading to Republicans fighting fire with fire, and a protracted battle seems all but certain at this point.
Washington Examiner has the details.
Pennsylvania Republicans are appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court and threatening to impeach the state’s supreme court after the body approved a redrawn electoral map that heavily favors Democrats.
Late Wednesday, Pennysylvania’s House Speaker Mike Turzai and Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati submitted an emergency request to the nation’s highest court requesting a block on implementing the new lines drawn by the state court.
“The Pennsylvania Supreme Court conspicuously seized the redistricting process and prevented any meaningful ability for the legislature to enact a remedial map to ensure a court-drawn map,” they wrote in their request.
This is far from sour grapes from a party that came up on the losing end of a fair fight.
The state Supreme Court pushed through what they thought to be best with nary a thought given to the actual rule of law.
Turzai and Scarnati said their argument was based on the state court’s violation of the U.S. Constitution by legislating from the bench.
National Republicans are also expected to challenge the court-drawn maps. And national Democrats may challenge that challenge.
Eric Holder, the former U.S. attorney general who is leading a well-funded group called The National Democratic Redistricting Committee, which is supported by former President Barack Obama, has been strident in its support for the new map.
The committee has announced that Pennsylvania is on their ‘electoral target list’ for 2018.
If you can’t beat ‘em, change the rules so you don’t have to worry about it anymore.
That line of thinking seems to have infested the Democratic Party in the wake of 2016, and it’s truly a wonder how they can justify their collective behavior enough to sleep well at night.
Thankfully, the Pennsylvania GOP isn’t going to go down without a fight, and we can only hope that will lead to even more standing up against the transparent liberal agenda.
