Democrats have the worst ideas ever. Then they try to sell the American people on those ideas. When that doesn’t work, they take matters into their own hands and try to force it down our throats with legislation and regulations.
And, unfortunately, they get away with it more often than not.
And that’s exactly what we find them doing in the latest story of liberal insanity.
The Western Journal reports:
Climate activists rallied in Maryland’s capital city of Annapolis on Thursday, showing their support for new legislation which would require the Old Line State to use 100 percent renewable energy by 2035.
The event was attended by state legislators and grassroots activists alike, who called for an end to the use of fossil fuels and a switch to “green energy” sources like solar and wind energy in an effort to combat climate change.
So, democrats are now forcing their unrealistic liberal plans onto the residents of Maryland. But, Maryland elected a republican governor. So, going green is obviously not the highest priority for the majority of the people of Maryland.
Which brings us back to the point that democrats don’t care what the people want. Or the governor for that matter.
On Tuesday, the Maryland House of Delegates took steps to reverse Republican Governor Larry Hogan’s veto of a similar bill passed in 2017, requiring “one-quarter of the state’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2020,” according to The Baltimore Sun.
So not only are democrats going against the will of the people of Maryland, but now the will of the governor as well.
And, they are taking matters even further by claiming that green energy will be cost-effective.
… Supporters of Maryland’s bill, like General Assembly Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins, assert that such legislation is not only necessary to protect the environment and the health of citizens, but will also lower costs for poorer families.
Oh really? So, green energy is cheaper? Nope, not by a long shot.
A 2014 article from The Economist explained that some countries that maintain “large amounts of renewable generation,” including Denmark and Germany, incur the steepest energy costs in the “rich world.”
There’s no way that this plan will be sustainable. It will fail and government subsidies, funded by the hard-working middle class’ tax dollars, will end up paying for it. But that was always the democrats’ plan from the beginning anyway.
“We must pass this bill because it stands up for equity by capping at 6 percent the household energy bill for low-income families,” she added.
So poor families will have a cap of what they will have to pay, and the middle class will be stuck paying for poorer people’s energy plus their own.
This kind of idea sounds familiar. Socialism, anyone?
Whats more, The Economist said, “renewable sources” run “intermittently.” Solar panels, for instance, work most efficiently on clear days, and not as well on cloudy ones.
Wind turbines are subject to weather patterns as well. They spin roughly a third of the time when the wind is blowing. Power from wind stations ends up being more expensive due to the turbines not running at full blast.
So basically democrats want the middle class to pay for more expensive but unreliable energy that they themselves aren’t even using. Yep, that sounds exactly like an idea straight from democrats to me.
Thanks, but no thanks. I’m not drinking their Kool-Aid today.
Let’s hope the people of Maryland don’t drink it either. And that the governor doesn’t let this go down without a fight.
