California shocked the country when it became a “sanctuary state.” A new law prohibits local police from cooperating with federal authorities It is a disgusting violation of U.S. law, an insult to every American.
President Trump promised to punish California for this un-American policy. He said he would withhold federal funds from the state. Instead of demanding the law be changed, he simply created conditions that would compel CA to change the law themselves. Brilliant move.
Of course, the super-liberal state fought back. But, thanks to one federal judge, they’ve got no legs to stand on.
From Western Journalism:
A federal judge ruled Monday that the Trump administration does not have to immediately pay California the withheld funds President Donald Trump refused to award to the sanctuary state.
“If we have to, we’ll defund,” Trump said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “We give tremendous amounts of money to California. California in many ways is out of control, as you know.”
Now, U.S. District Judge William Orrick has ruled that the Trump administration can delay the $1 million grant that has been withheld from the Golden State, The Associated Press reported…
We can talk all day about California’s terrible immigration stance. Their liberal leaders are sacrificing American citizens, to protect drug dealers, murderers, and rapists.
Democrats don’t care about the damage they’re causing to the state. They only want to hurt President Trump. And everyone else.
Make no mistake, the federal government can challenge the law directly. They can take the case all the way to the Supreme Court. But Trump’s move is much smarter. Instead of engaging in a lengthy court battle, he is simply putting the squeeze on California.
The federal government can deny funds if they wish. They don’t have to give California the grants or aid they usually do. Trump has made it clear what they must do to see the money flow again.
If California’s leaders are smart, they’ll quickly repeal the sanctuary law. If not, they’ll just have to make do without federal funds.
That $1 million is only the beginning. The federal government supplies plenty of cash to states. Thanks to this ruling, the money is going to dry up.
I hope it was worth it, Gov. Brown.
